Teaching Philosophy

My Teaching Philosophy:


My educational goal is to be a middle school teacher who encourages all students to learn while making the process as entertaining as possible. The reason I want to become a teacher traces back to my own sixth grade experience. I had a teacher who could turn your worse day into a perfect day. He made learning fun even when you did not think it was possible. The lessons he taught were not only interesting, they were informative. He was my inspiration on becoming a teacher because he made kids, like me, enjoy coming to school every single day. I would tell myself that when I grew up, I would become a teacher that would give as much as I could to my students.

 My inspiration came when I was in middle school and that is the main reason I want to teach at that level. Teaching, for me, is a wonderful profession to be in due to the fact that you inspire young minds.  Teaching helps develop the minds of students which helps determine their future.  The purpose of education is to learn valuable information and facts that will help them succeed in life. The role of an educator is to teach students this information. In my classroom, I will strive each day to relay all the information to my students in a clear and precise way.  I will make adaptions within my teachings to accommodate each and every one of my students.  A good educator makes this information interesting and enjoyable; incorporating all their skills into each and every lesson.

As I mentioned above, I want to teach at the middle school level which ranges from fourth to eighth grade. My dream class would be a sixth grade math class filled with different types of students. Every student is different – they have different backgrounds, different learning styles, different personalities, and different principals. In my classroom or learning community, I want all children to set aside their differences and focus on why they are in a classroom. Every child goes to school to learn and grow as a person.  I want my learners to understand that and respect and value differences between others.

The fact that children are different makes teaching hard and rewarding on an educator. In my perspective, teaching math to children derives all sorts of problems because educators have kids who get it and the ones who do not. I have to make sure that my lessons engage every child and they understand what I am talking about in the front of the room. I have to get to know each one of my students and their unique learning styles.  Once I figure out their learning styles I can adjust my lessons to fit the needs of all my students.  By doing this, I hope they will have a better understanding of the material.

            Teaching, for me, is a very important and vital profession. It is also very demanding and tough. As an educator, I will never stop learning about my subjects and about my learners. Learning about their learning styles and their backgrounds will help me better their educational path.  I wanted to be a teacher ever since the sixth grade where I was inspired by a former teacher. Now I want to be the teacher who will be written about by a future college student when asked “who inspired you”.

  1. I really can appreciate your story behind your philosophy. I had middle school teachers who helped me get through the toughest parts of my life and who were personal, respectful, caring, fun, and motivated to help their learners! I like your statement about students’ differences make teaching hard but also rewarding. It’s so important to look at teaching as an accepted challenge. Just as when you are preparing to run a race you have to train, often changing your diet and lifestyle habits to achieve a goal. In educating students sometimes you have to change your teaching habits and styles in order to achieve your goal of students’ success.
